Spencer meets more of the family

This week, my brother and his girlfriend came up to visit. Spencer liked them a lot and was sad to see them go.

When they first came up, Spencer was excited to meet some new people. He really liked playing with Bret and really wanted to meet Samantha (which got him in a lot of trouble for jumping and licking).

On the first morning of their trip, we went to Pennsylvania to go skiing. Spencer sat in the car the whole time and was calm most of the trip. When we got their, we unpacked and Spencer played ball with my brother and dad a lot. We played with Spencer a lot on our trip and had a very good time. I sat with Spencer the whole way back and he was very good….until he tried to help me play games on the computer.

Spencer and the Car

The snow that Spencer loved oh so much slowly melted over the week. Spencer enjoyed what was left of the snow and did a few other fun things.

Spencer rode in the car a lot this week, we have a harness so he can sit next to me in the car. He seems to enjoy sitting with me and doesn’t mind putting the harness on. He also got to see my grandma a lot this week who he seems to really likes.

Spencer tried helping us in a fun activity this year, putting up the Christmas tree! Although he ended up trying to eat all the branches and ornaments.

Spencer had a fun week this week and next week will probably be one too. Thanks  for reading!

Spencer’s snow day!

Spencer had a exciting week. We had a huge snowstorm and Spencer LOVED IT!

We had about 12 or so inches of snow and Spencer played in it as much as he could. He jumped like a rabbit in and out of the snow. He also got stuck once when he jumped out and his head went in a little hole in the snow, you could only see his tail and leash. Playing in the snow has been a blast for him, especially when other dogs came out and played with him.

Spencer also got to ride in the seat of the car with his harness on while we drove to my Grandma’s house. He had a good time there, and enjoyed riding in the seat next to me in the car.

Spencer goes back to puppy class

Spencer's big excitement this week was going back to puppy class. He really enjoyed playing with and meeting all the pups.

A big focus of the class this week was staying, the puppies tried staying in all the different positions, sit, stand, and down. We also made a circle and passed our dogs around so Spencer got the chance to work with a lot of different people.

Spencer also got his last shot on Wednesday! He is also 35 pounds and is getting very big!

Thanks for reading.

Spencer’s Adventure!

This Thanksgiving, we adventured off to Pennsylvania to finish setting up our vacation home. Spencer came along and saw something very exciting, snow!

Spencer was very excited about setting up this home and wanted to help. He was right there with us while we unpacked, put things together, and moved things around. He loved exploring the house, eating things such as Styrofoam, but most of all, playing ball!

On the second day of our trip, Spencer saw snow for the first time! He was very interested to explore in the snow but most of all eat it!

Thanks for reading! Have a great week!

Spencer’s Exciting Week!

Spencer had a very adventurous week this week! He learned to go up and down stairs and has now been to every floor on our house. He really likes to explore the middle floor and loves all the new smells and sights!

He also went with us to Champion, Pennsylvania. He seemed to  enjoy it there  and was very quiet in the car. He met a billy goat who did not seem to enjoy his company. While fixing our vacation home up there, he was very entertained by the tennis ball rolling across the vinyl flooring. He also ran up and down our long hallway. We had a lot of fun playing with the cardboard and exploring the woods!

A CCI official named Jen came to see Spencer and pick up some samples to see how his probiotic study is going. She said he was doing very good with his training and such. He has lots of fun with her and (as shown in the second picture) was very relaxed with her.

Spencer also had a play date earlier in the week! It was with a dog named Crystal and her owner. They went wild! Spencer overall had a great time with her and I hope they get together again one day.

Hope you have a great long weekend!  4 mo w JohnJen n SpencerSpencer 4 mo first stairs

Spencer shows his other side

Spencer is becoming more used to us and becoming an important part of the family. His training is going great, and he is a very quick learner. We focused this week on sit, shake, and down. With the occasional don’t and off. I have said off more in the past two weeks than I think I have in the last 2 years.

Since Spencer is becoming more comfortable with us, he is more comfortable with barking….a lot more. If my friends and I are watching TV or playing video games, he will bark, and bark, and bark until he gets out. Although, I must say there is a lot less barking than expected.

We took Spencer to puppy class again, and although a lot of it wasn’t for Spencer, we learned a lot. It was amazing to see what he will be like one day.

Sorry for the late entry, have a great week, and pray for those whose friends and families were involved in Fort Hood!

Adventures with Spencer

The week has gone by so fast! And Spencer’s making it so much fun! This week has taught me this if not more, puppies are crazy!

We took Spencer to his first obedience class this week and he was the little guy. All the dogs were after him and it was hilarious! They told us for only having him for a week and a half he was doing very well. He has learned sit, and started let’s go, down, wait, and shake. I can’t believe he’s learning so fast!

Today is turning bad though. His cage wasn’t fully locked last night and he had his own little party. Chewing magazines, chewed the coffee table, played with his mouse he can’t play with alone, and much more. So we’ll see how the rest of the day goes and hope he redeems himself!!!!

Thanks for reading! Happy Halloween!

The Journey Begins

Why would a person such as us raise a dog to become a confident adult dog, and give him away? To give back. Just to simply give back. My family and I are currently raising a dog for the company CCI (Canine Companions for Independence). They have volunteers raise dogs, and put them in basic training for people who need them. People who are blind, deaf, paraplegic, autistic children, and people with physical disabilities. Why did we pick this company? They give companion dogs to wounded warriors for free. My dad being a retired army vet was very happy with that. We are currently raising our first dog, Spencer. He is an overall very well behaved puppy and a great friend.

Spencer’s journey with us began Monday, October 19th. We drove to CCI Headquarters in New York and brought him home. He was extremely well behaved for a puppy having no idea where in the world he was going on a five and a half hour trip. Spencer was about eleven weeks old when we brought him home.

Spencer is a great, funny, and entertaining dog. It’s funny to watch him when he hears a new sound because he will just sit down and listen. He also hops to a toy instead of running to him. We have started training him with his sit, hurry, wait, let’s go, and his name commands. Spencer’s progress is great and he is doing very well.

These past few days have taught me  something. Puppies are lots of hard work, and they are also good friends.

That’s Spencer’s World this week! I hope all of you who are reading this have a great week!
